On Monday, Aug. 21 our region will experience a partial solar eclipse which will peak at 10:17 a.m. Although this is a spectacular event to witness, safety for you and our students is of paramount importance. Looking at the sun for any length of time without protection can result in permanent damage to your eyes. The only safe way to look directly at the sun or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as "eclipse glasses" or handheld solar viewers. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun; they transmit thousands of times too much sunlight.

Please view NASA's flyer regarding the eclipse for more viewing and safety tips.
